Was it really your favorite atheistic feature, as a non-believer of gods, or was it your favorite aesthetic feature because it looked nice?

Well, that does it: I'm getting the 3G. I have wanted an iPhone since day one and after the 3G was announced I thought "finally! I'm getting me an iPhone" but after the sheer lack of iPhones I wondered if t might just be better to get the old iPhone. I've used iPhones sans 3G and they are fast, and you can find your location. But this review has sealed the deal, it's a iPhone 3G or bust!
You did a great job talking about the aesthetics and how well the 3G and GPS work. Not only that but a great review overall. You really got into the 'heart' of the phone, not just another review saying the iPhone ONLY has a 2MP camera, compared to *insert random 50billionMP phone here* and our lab tests say the battery is dismal. You actually used the phone and put it through the paces of everyday use, and I think the review is better off from it. Great job!

I have to say that this is finest and most extensive review I've seen of the iPhone 3G to date. Great work! One of the things I can't stand from the iPhone dissenters is that they compare the iPhone to other similar devices and say "see! the iPhone has less features!" and technically they are right in that but what they fail to understand is that if you compare the features that the iPhone does have to the same features its competitors have, you will clearly see that the iPhone's implementation, design and the way the user interacts with them are far superior to the way its competitors' features are designed. Which do you want? A device with a 100 badly implemented features or a device with 25 excellently implemented features and also has the greater capacity and flexibility for new ones? In other words, quality vs quantity. Also, as a side note, it would be interesting to explore the possibility of creating applications for the iPhone which turn it into an accessory which could be used to control aspects of applications on your Mac. For instance, creating an application which would interface with Logic Pro and control parts of it such as panning, faders, automation etc.

Probably one of the most insightful reviews out there - it beats the others in the fact that you've used it for 2 weeks, and know the device in and out. You've definitely made me want one more, and as soon as I can make it out to an Apple Store that has them in stock...

The idea of turning 3G/WiFi on and off is really quite excellent, with one problem that Apple doesn't want - when you turn it back on, there's of course a delay while it finds and connects to the network. If the iPhone is constantly switching back and forth in the background, the user is going to notice quickly and move on. It's a good idea - I'm just not sure whether it'd actually work in reality.

It'll be interesting to see what Apple does with their upcoming tablet, especially if it integrates with the Bluetooth keyboard.

I'm in the same situation as rmaspero. I have an iPod Touch simply because O2's monthly plans are too expensive, and I don't need over 150 minutes a month. Thankfully, O2 will be bringing the iPhone 3G to pay & go later on this year.

A good comprehensive review Michael. Sorry about your Rogers experience, I would not blame that on Apple but more AT&T as they insisted on it in their contract rather than activation at home, I think Apple want to make everything the same throughout the board so they did it like that. I have an iPod Touch and it is made me want an iPhone even more since I have had it, but for me the monthly contract in the UK is to expensive.

Hey, until now I didn't read your post, cause I had no time (but I will read it today).
My thought on the iPhone was long time 'yea, I must have this thing' but since some weeks I think that I let the iPhone be iPhone and don't get one:D reasons are the high pricing (in germany) and the personal thoughts on having internet anywhere. But I'm really thinking about getting an iPod touch if the new comes out (like iPhone 3G just without the phone?) but only if it gets cheaper!!!

Your blog post swayed me. I was really on the fence about getting the new iPhone (I have the 1st generation 4GB.) But now I am thinking harder and harder about getting one. Of course this could be the late night unfrugelness talking, but you have made me very tempted.
