Nice round up. I was going to get a MBP on October 13th (my birthday) but decided to wait for the update. I've ordered a 2.53Ghz MBP ahortly after the launch and I still have to wait 2 more weeks :( But I think the new MBPs are worth waiting :)

Henning: The nice thing about them transitioning all their Macs over to DisplayPort is that (hopefully) you will only have to buy these adapters once, and they will work with all future Macs.

I'm going to take the next year and transition myself from FW400 to 800 so I don't need an adapter when I pick up a new MBP sometime next year before university.

Very nice post, thanks for rounding up all the info. Lots of things I didn't know in there.
At first, I had mixed feelings about the new laptops, but by now, they've grown on me a lot. The DisplayPort thingy could be nice in the future, but I hate how Apple always make you buy 20$ adaptors for basically every connection out there. Sad news about FireWire 400 as well, but I'll get over it. FW800, here I come!

Great roundup of the whole keynote, haven't watched it myself, but probably won't after reading this. My thoughts from reading Apple's product page:'

- $999??? 1000 dollars is a mental barrier that they needed to break, and 999 just doesn't quite cut it. And they're advertising them at $1299, so what's the deal with it?

"MacBook

The next generation of notebooks starts at $1299."

Ugh. Like sure the technology is stunning an amazing to us geeks who are tech savy, but most consumers who Apple needs to gain marketshare from don't care at 9600 M GT graphics card or a 8600 M GT. Sure I do, but its just numbers to most people. If I were Apple, I would cut the MacBook or MacBook Air and create a mix of the two. Long comment, but basically I was hoping for greater price cuts, not that I'm struggling to afford one, but the general ecnomy would adopt to this wonderful world of computing faster.

Very interesting about the iPhone headset. I wonder if Apple will ever support the integrated headset remote as well?

I find the GPU switch setting to be somewhat confusing - "higher performace" vs. "better battery life"? It's very nondescriptive for even pro users. And the fact that Apple turns the 9600 off by default probably isn't a good idea for a pro notebook.

But they're still amazing.
