Macworld 2008. The one day of the year that Apple fans know that they will see some new Apple-ly goodness out of Cupertino. Steve Jobs and Apple attempt to keep the upmost secrecy. But there are many rumors floating around the dark corners of the internet. Here are some of my Macworld 2008 predictions.
iPhone SDK
I except Steve Jobs to personally demo the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK, and announce partnerships with big development companies who already have their hands on the SDK. He will show some cool things you can do with it, and announce that it will be made publicly available in February. I also expect a small announcement of a 16GB iPhone priced at $499.
Mac Nano
Ever since Macworld 2007, the AppleTV and the Mac Mini have been very similar, and with Leopard, the gap closes even more. I expect Apple to make some mention of an Apple Media Server that has the power of the Mac Mini, but sits in the home theater like the AppleTV. Wifi, an optical drive, a big HD, and wireless iTunes rentals will make this the ultimate set-top box for your HDTV.
MacBook Air
The product that I fully expect to take center stage at Macworld, as the iPhone took center stage of MWSF 2007, is the MacBook Air. This ultra-portable from Apple has been rumored for a long time, and I am almost certain it will be a new product line, under the MacBook Air name. Touting it’s wireless capability, and it’s sleek, thin, glass and aluminum design, the MacBook Air will reinvent the ultra-portable space.
One more thing…
Many Steve Jobs keynotes end with “One more thing…”. This year, I believe it will be an Apple tablet. Since 2004, Apple has been working on trying to get multi-touch inside a Mac. I believe that we will see the Mac Touch at Macworld. Maybe a little larger than the iPhone, the Mac Touch will run Mac OS X, and finally replace the Apple Newton of old.
Quiet Updates
Not everything at Macworld is worthy of a mention by Steve Jobs. I think that we will finally see an update to the Cinema Displays. Quietly, only to be noticed on the Apple website, the new displays will most likely have lower prices, built-in iSights, and possibly LEDs.
All in all, this is poised to be a very exciting Macworld with many new products, and exciting surprises. Happy Macworld 2008 everyone!
Three new product lines in one day of announcements? Not a chance… though it would be awesome. :p
